چکیده

A variety of cast pyrometR 718 alloy microstructures result from processing of different diameters of industrial scale ingots for producing superalloy forgings used in aircraft turbine engine applications. The hot workability of these cast alloys will significantly depend on the cast microstructure. The current study is focussed on understanding the evolution of the cast microstructure during Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) of 718 superalloy as it relates to secondary dendrite arm spacing, second phase evolution and distribution during solidification. The variation microstructure is related to different cooling rates encountered in superalloy production. The effect of cast structure on homogenization and hot working is also discussed.

EFFECT OF THE INCLINED COOLING PLATE CHARACTERISTICS ON THE THIXOTROPIC MICROSTRUCTURE OF A356.0 ALUMINUM ALLOY

In the present work microstructural evolution of A356 Aluminum alloy using an inclined cooling plate casting process for thixoforming feedstock production is investigated. The resultant microstructure was evaluated and compared with those of the same alloy produced by the conventional casting process, i.e. directly cast in the same mold without using an inclined cooling plate. It was found that...

تعیین ثابت‌های رابطه هال- پچ اصلاح شده و ارتباط خواص مکانیکی با ریزساختار آلیاژ AS7U3G

Mechanical properties of the alloys are a strong function of the average silicon particles size and the secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS). Modified Hall-Petch equation expresses the effects of these two microstructural parameters on the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of the Al-Si based alloys. These microstructural parameters depen on parameters such as chemical composition, c...

Optimization and utilization of semisolid casting process for semisolid welding of Al-6061 alloy

Semisolid processing is one of the modern routes in sound and near net shape parts production.  Preparation of semisolid slurry using a cooling slope is increasingly becoming popular, primarily because of its simplicity in design and ease of control of the process. In this research, the microstructures of Al6061 semisolid alloy cast via a miniature cooling slope were investigated. The propertie...

EFFECT OF COOLING RATE AND GRAIN REFINEMENT ON THE MICROSEGREGATION IN Al-4.8 wt.% Cu ALLOY

Microsegregation is one of the most important phenomena occurs during solidification. It usually results in formation of some unexpected second phases which generally affect the mechanical properties and specially reduce the workability of casting products. The aim of this research is to study the effect of cooling rate and grain refinement on the microsegregation in Al-4.8 wt.% Cu. For this p...

Microstructural Evaluation of Ti-6AL-4V Alloy during Hot Deformation

Among the titanium alloys, Ti-6Al-4V is the most widely used. In the present work, the uniaxial hot compressive behavior of Ti-6Al-4V has been investigated under constant strain rates. A series of dilatometery experiments were carried out to determine the transformation temperatures at different cooling rates. Specimens were homogenized at 1050 °C for 10 minutes followed by fast cooling to dif...
